Chinese folk singer Tang Can and Singapore pop singer Stephanie Sun are competing to play the heroine in the mandarin version of Snow Wolf Lake, with Hong Kong singer Jacky Cheung playing the lead role.
A decision is expected to be announced by the end of the week.
The opera will be staged in the Chinese mainland in this year, and tickets are on sale now.
Snow Wolf Lake is a love story about a gardener, Hu Lang, and a rich young lady, Ning Jingxue, and ends with both of the tragic characters committing suicide.
