MING PAO - Jacky Cheung was recently giving an interview on i-Cable talking about his new album and heartfelt experiences. The reaction from the public was hot. Tonight, i-Cable is broadcasting a one hour music special from Jacky too. Within the special, Jacky mentions the departure of his good friends and is beginning to worry about death. The singer is afraid to die because he's uncertain what will happen after death, and is fearful of losing everything he had. When the topic led to using SMS, Jacky and his wife May Lo are way behind. To this day, Jacky still doesn't know how to change his cell phone's ringtone. His wife is pretty low-key too, and doesn't care to express her inner emotions through a ringtone. When talking about his role in entertainment, Jacky once thought he could use his own strength to change and to do a lot for the business. At last he realized there is only so much he can do, but he will continue to work hard.

SING TAO - Jacky Cheung's music special aired on i-Cable earlier tonight. In the special, Jacky says his wife May Lo loves his new work. The singer is emphatically against mp3 downloading. He slammed Hong Kong record labels for only knowing how to make quick cash, and not figuring out a plan to repair the music business. Jacky believes the media and critics have a responsibility to introduce quality music to the public. And what is good music? Apparently, it's not about having good looks. Jacky applies his motto and principle that "a good song will get you good results." He realizes he doesn't have enough strength to improve the industry, and can only do a part of the job. The satisfaction, not the number of records sold, is what Jacky cares most about.

Jacky Cheung Hops to i-Cable, Turns His Back on TVB

MING PAO - Jacky Cheung made a deal with i-Cable to do 3 music specials and isn't afraid of ticking off TVB. Jacky doesn't have a contract with TVB and Alan Tam doesn't either. They are both A-list singers. In a shrinking music industry with digital publicity, they have the freedom to do as they wish. TVB's Jade Solid Gold Awards ratings are at an all time low and mostly cater to young idols. For the past generation of singers, this means nothing to them in terms of publicity. Then, TVB went the game show route for singers who don't care about elevating their standards in singing. A bunch of singers wait on line to get on Jade Solid Gold. The lucky ones have TVB playing their video, so then what? Even if the video gets on TVB, it doesn't guarantee more album sales. For new singers, they can never have too much support from TV. Simply, TVB's influence in the music industry is too big. Ninety five percent of Hong Kong singers have contracts with TVB. To have something where everyone is happy is impossible today. Recently TVB approved a new rule where only contracted singers are allowed to perform the theme songs to their soaps. In their music specials, TVB chooses which singers to promote. Jacky Cheung feels it is reasonable to work with i-Cable. Even though their ratings are nowhere near their rival, TVB's music program is not what Jacky needs. Even though the i-Cable audience is smaller, it is the type of people Jacky wants to reach. The singer says that he will not lose anything or be in a disadvantageous position by working with i-Cable. -- Anni

ORIENTAL DAILY NEWS - George Lam and Jacky Cheung were playing tennis at Jordan the other day. Little did we know that George is a high skilled golf player as well as a tennis player. Jacky got a head start and practiced before facing Ah-Lam, but unfortunately he lost out. Jacky looked like he was a little lacking, missing the ball at times. Ah-Lam got more powerful as the game went on and even got applause from the TV crew following them. Jacky says, "Ah-Lam is famous for being great at tennis. Ah-Lam used to be a tennis instructor. In the past I thought about asking Ah-Lam to teach me tennis, but unfortunately I never had the opportunity." Ah Lam replies, "I haven't played tennis in a long time. Being an instructor was like 30 years ago." Even though Jacky lost, he displayed great sportsmanship and asked Ah-Lam to play again, but the singer/songwriter seems like he has other plans for Jacky. Apparently George brought his favorite golf club and is trying to get Jacky to become a golfer too to play along with his wife Sally Yeh and friends Alan Tam and Hacken Lee. -- Anni
