MING PAO - Jacky Cheung is now embroiled in a lawsuit involving a concert he was supposed to hold in Chengdu, China two years ago. According to a magazine report, the promoter is suing Jacky and Fun Entertainment to court, which is set to go on trial this June in Chengdu. According to the magazine, a representative, Mr. Wong, acted on Mrs. Chan's order to ship HKD $20 million worth of lighting and audio equipment to Chengdu on November 24th to prepare to set up the stage. Because the promoter wasn't able to rent out the venue, Mrs. Chan changed venues on the night of the 27th. Tickets were selling and she didn't want to disappoint the fans. However on the 29th, the new venue was shut down because it wasn't able to obtain a safety license. The concert was forced to be cancelled. The promoter sold HKD $267,000 of tickets to Jacky's Chengdu show. Yesterday we caught up with Jacky's manager Florence Chan Suk-Fan. Mrs. Chan is puzzled by the lawsuit but will respect the orders of the court. An attorney is now handling the matter. -- Anni

Veteran Hong Kong pop superstar Jacky Cheung or Zhang Xueyou warns that a cookie-cutter approach that chooses profit over quality has spurred a decline in the Chinese music industry.
With the bottom line as the top priority, new singers are only given a short time to prove their profitability.
Cheung held the media responsible, reminiscing about the days when his songs would play on radio for a year and a half. Now, songs disappear after they've made a mark on the charts.
Cheung also lamented a lack of creative talent in the music industry saying there is a lack of variety with everyone writing the same type of songs.

SING TAO - Two nights ago, Jacky Cheung and Sandy Lam guest performed at a charity event. From the moment the concert began till the end, the fans screamed nonstop. Jacky was especially touched by their passion, and was even surprised when fans tried to catch one more glimpse of him before he drove off. Jacky doesn't believe he's reached a "god" level. "If I am really a god, I could do any wrong, wouldn't forget lyrics, and wouldn't get sick. I am not a god, and I have moments of insensibility, and I will die too." The singer hopes people would stop labeling him that way.

CHINA VIEW - Veteran Hong Kong singer and film star Jacky Cheung has released a new album after a 3-year silence. At a news conference held Thursday in Taiwan, the singer promoted his new album named "Life is Like a Dream". The album's ten songs were written by Cheung, a sharp to contrast to his other records which make use of other artists' works. Taiwan's renowned vocalist Harlem Yu, or Yu Chengqing in Mandarin, also showed up and added to the fun by giving a guitar as a gift to his vocalist friend. The new record sold out three days after its Hong Kong release and has dominated sales charts in other areas. Read Source
